Why and Who?

Who Should Participate?

If you’re at AU we encourage you to come by and take a look. Try on a hand, see what we are all about, and take up our call to action.

Who Can Participate?

Participants at AU are welcome to put their skills to the test and answer the challenge

Why Should I Participate?

You can help solve problems that  will  move our designs forward and can expand our reach! These challenges address shortcomings in our current line of devices.  You’ll be helping us, but as a part of the team, you’re also helping people who are not well served by our current devices.

I Work For Autodesk, Can I Participate?

Yes! Employees of Autodesk are welcome to participate in the Hackathon.

I Work For A Vendor, Can I Participate?

Yes, as long as you do not violate any intellectual property rights of your employer by using software you are not allowed to. You must be registered for the annual meeting as an attendee or as an exhibitor.

When, Where, and How?

It’s best to register in advance but there will be opportunities to register during Autodesk University. When you register we will send you information about setting up an account. The account will be needed to access files and to upload your designs. It will save time if you’re able to get this done in advance.

Is There A Fee To Participate?

There’s no fee for registration and participation. Please register and drop by!

Everything Else

What Problems Can I Solve?

There will be three challenges at the Hackathon.

  • Design new hands or modifications to existing hands for individuals with anatomical anomalies  (fused fingers, thumbs, and/or vestigial digits) that make the current designs in the current repertoire less than ideal. We will have  scans and photos of the two  most common ones seen by the matching board.
  • Using a new and exciting design for a universal adapter, design a device that provides vocational or functional  adaptation to existing eNable hands in order to better accommodate users who want to complete specific tasks where the eNable device isn’t ideal to use or is exhaustive for the activity. Don’t worry if you are stumped for an idea because we will have a wish list from current users of our devices as well as a list of suggestions relevant to different vocational needs.  As long as you can design something that goes on to that palm attachment, anything goes!
  • Take a look at the design briefs!

How Are Designs Judged?

Designs will be evaluated based on the following factors:

  • Wearability and comfort
  • Innovative Design
  • Ease of printing
  • Visual appeal
  • Functionality

What Skill Level Do I Need To Participate?

You’ll do best if you have some level of familiarity with design programs such as Autodesk Fusion360 and if your comfortable manipulating designs.

What Do I Need To Provide/What Is Provided?

We’ll have some workstations loaded up with Autodesk software, but those are limited so please feel free to bring your own laptop or tablet computer.

We will provide snacks and beverages.

Can I Promote My Participation In The Hackathon?

Absolutely! This event is all about sharing and collaborative work. We will be tweeting and posting about the event. Let people know you’re coming! Fill them in on your progress throughout the event!  Join in with the hashtag #ECFhackAU

Can We Form Teams?

You can! We encourage collaboration. Put your heads together and come up with the perfect design solution.

Who Owns The Designs?

In order to participate you must agree to pick an open source license for your design. There will be more information about this at the event.

Who Are The Judges?

Andreas Bastian, Andy Christensen, Jeff Erenstone, and Scott Summit.  Click here for the information about our judges.

What’s In It For Me?

Fame, fortune, recognition,  and small prizes for designs that move forward.

How Do I Submit My Final Designs?

Design will be uploaded to cloud based Autodesk sandbox.
